New for 2019: Our Charity Partner Program

In News

At First Night Boston, we’re pleased to announce the addition of a philanthropic program to our 2019 event. At a time of the year in which we often focus on bettering ourselves with our resolutions, we thought we could close out 2018 and ring in 2019 by bettering the world around us. So this year, in addition to hours of free entertainment, light shows, ice sculptures, and other family-friendly programs, 2019 event-goers will get to learn about four amazing non-profit groups who are improving our communities and the lives of the people within them. In its first year, under the rallying cry of “Now’s The Time,” this Charity Partner Program will be working with non-profits and charities which help to empower girls and women both locally in Boston and across New England.

For our first year of our Charity Partner Program, we will be working with Boston-based Project Hope, which serves low-income women and families with education, workforce training, job placement, housing assistance, and an emergency family shelter, the Center for Women and Enterprise, which is dedicated to helping New England women and veterans start and grow their businesses, #HereForTheMusic, a campaign created by non-profit organization Calling all Crows that works to prevent sexual violence in the live music industry through training, policy consulting, and education, and Girls at Work, Inc., which, through power tools and one woodworking project at a time, empowers girls to build confidence to face current and future life challenges.

While there are wide range of causes to support, and we felt that supporting the women and girls of our communities was a good choice this year. Our Mayor agrees – “First Night Boston is a celebration that unites residents and visitors of all ages. It’s an annual tradition that showcases the best of who we are as a city,” said Boston Mayor Martin J. Walsh. “This year, we’ll also unite around our shared priority of supporting and empowering the women and girls in our communities. We look forward to welcoming these organizations to First Night Boston, and making 2019 another great year for the City of Boston.”

The fun kicks off at Boston’s Copley Square at 12:00 noon on December 31. To learn more about our Charity Partners, click here, and we hope to see you dancing away in a few weeks!
